Valorizing by-products is no longer just an option—it is crucial for boosting both the economic and environmental sustainability of pyrolysis oil production and upgrading.
We are proud to share that FUEL-UP project was recently presented at the 34th European Biomass Conference and Exhibition (EUBCE2026) in The Hague, The Netherlands!
Matteo Gilardi, Research Scientist at SINTEF Industry, on 21 May 2026 delivered an impactful oral presentation titled: “Process Design for the Recovery of Valuable Organic Compounds from Pyrolysis Oil Aqueous Phase.”
🔬 Key Innovation Highlights:
- Advanced Separation: The proposed process utilizes four distillation columns in series to achieve high recovery rates of both methanol and ethanol from the aqueous phase.
- Next-Gen Modeling: By using a re-parametrized Vapour-Liquid Equilibrium (VLE) model, SINTEF Industry has significantly boosted prediction accuracy compared to standard models currently available in COCO-COFE and Aspen Plus process simulators.
Congratulations again to Matteo for this very comprehensive presentation!
