FUEL-UP has established a close partnership with the EU-funded project Flexby through collaborative clustering activities. This collaboration is designed to amplify the overall impact of both projects’ research and innovation efforts within the European landscape.
This partnership will facilitate a crucial exchange of knowledge, project results, and deliverables between FUEL-UP and Flexby, and the other EU funded projects involved in the initiative. Furthermore, it will ensure a broader dissemination and uptake of outcomes, significantly contributing to the wider objectives of European research in sustainable bioenergy.
Flexby is a EU funded project aimed at producing efficient and sustainable advanced liquid and gaseous biofuels from microalgae cultivated in domestic wastewater and from industrial waste streams, integrating a cost-efficient and groundbreaking microwave-assisted pyrolysis process.
Flexby addresses the critical need for sustainable energy solutions by converting waste materials into valuable biofuels. The feedstock, derived from microalgae and industrial waste, undergoes micro wave-assisted pyrolysis to produce three distinct fractions: solid, liquid, and gas. These fractions are then valorised through non-carbon emitting technologies to produce advanced biofuels which will then be utilised to generate electricity in fuel cells.
Flexby is coordinated by IDENER (Spain) and brings together 9 partners from 4 countries, including Algae for Future (Portugal), CSIC-INCAR (Spain), Universidad de Sevilla (Spain), Fricke and Mallah (Germany), Politecnico di Milano (Italy), GREENDELTA (Germany), GALP (Portugal), C02 Value Europe (Belgium).
Over the next two years, FUEL-UP will take an active role in joint dissemination activities with Flexby, including co-organised events. These efforts will enhance the visibility, impact, and long-term sustainability of both projects’ outcomes, further strengthening their presence in the European research and innovation landscape.
