We are very pleased to share that FUEL-UP project was recently showcased at the 34th European Biomass Conference and Exhibition (EUBCE 2026) in The Hague!
Can GÜVENÇ R&D Researcher, TÜPRAŞ, on 22 May 2026, presented the poster: “Production of Renewable Aviation and Marine Fuels from Wood-Based Pyrolysis Oils through Hydrotreatment.”
The Challenge: While wood-derived pyrolysis oils are incredibly promising renewable intermediates, they come with tough technical hurdles—high oxygen and water content, chemical instability, coke formation, and rapid catalyst deactivation. These properties make direct integration into standard refinery processes difficult.
The Solution: By upgrading stabilized and partially deoxygenated pyrolysis oil (SDPO) through targeted hydrotreatment, we can bridge the gap. This critical step ensures biomass-derived feedstocks are fully compatible with existing refinery infrastructure, paving the way for scalable Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and marine diesel.
